Since I started following politics more closely I have come to understand that Republican Party and the Democrat Party are really not that much different then each other. Sure there are differences, particularly in the rhetoric, but their actions tend to be more closely aligned. I continue to beat this drum simply because in order for any effective change in the way our Government behaves, people have to start to recognize it and hold the politicians accountable.

Laurence Vance has written another excellent article “Would McCain Have Been Any Better” that describes some of the similarities between Obama and McCain.

As election season approaches the establishment Republican Party is starting to get the members to fall in line. Connie Mack (a so called True Conservative) has come out to endorse Mitt Romney, who like McCain is not that far different from Obama. Connie Mack supports Romney because “he can beat Obama and anybody is better then Obama”. When pressed by Judge Napalitano if that is the primary reason he supports Romney, Mack went on to describe a few other reasons that Romney should be elected. In either case, Mack is running for the Senate this year and in order to have a chance to win that seat he needs the big Government establishment backing so he comes out to support Romney.

All the while the rest of us regular folks sit here and watch the Government take money from the people by taxing, printing, and borrowing and give it to another group of people to keep the big government/ business/bank power structure in tact.

Can’t wait till the election so we can get four more years of Obama light!

Okay, so on a Saturday evening I watch the Republican Tea Party debate which I recorded earlier in the week. As usual the debate format is not very good because each candidate doesn’t get an opportunity to answer each of the questions. Additionally Wolf Blitzer, just like his colleagues, would change the questions from the audience as he “re-phrased” them. It is bad enough when candidates avoid answering the questions, we don’t need some hack journalist essentially asking all the questions

One of the questions that was asked was regarding “energy independence” and how each candidate would ensure that we are energy independent. Of course, each did not get to answer, but none of the candidates that did told the truth. The truth is energy independence will never happen and it is actually not desirable. Raw energy natural resources take many forms and they all contribute to a world energy market and by decreasing our ability to trade with other nations we remove ourselves (isolate) from the availability of those resources. This will drive the cost of energy up in this Country and make us poorer as a nation. Additionally we lose the ability to transfer energy resources if we need them fast – private markets can redirect resources in a flash and having as many trading partners gives us maximum flexibility to meet any demand.

The idea for energy independence is that we produce more energy here through lower regulations, taxes, or whatever other reasons energy is produced in other nations and then we can become independent. What would actually happen if we utilized our own resources more efficiently is that energy prices would go down because we would increase the supply on the world market.

Additionally if we no longer buy oil from any Middle Eastern country because we don’t like them, it really would just shift the market. Instead of us buying from the Middle East, France might buy more from them and we now get more from Brazil. Those type of restrictions though really just alter the market negatively and drive the cost of energy up here.

Energy is no different then any other product in the economy and we should encourage free trade amongst all people because free markets are mutually beneficial to both parties involved in the trade. Markets don’t see skin color or religion, just two people sharing a common interest in what the other person has so each person can satisfy their individual desire – two winners!

As a side note, regarding energy, the reason we are fighting wars in the middle east is because of Energy – Oil and Minerals. I find it funny that Obama preaches green technology and giving money away to companies who are going to save the planet through some solar panels, but is prosecuting a war in Afghanistan for their energy resources. Get the green vote here and give corporations/government access to those resources – out of sight out of mind – another fooled greenie.

Have you ever stopped to wonder what is meant by a politician saying “we are protecting American interests” – seems they get away with that and it is just repeated. What are those interests? Spreading freedom – you can’t give someone that. Spreading Democracy – you can impose that on a group of people. The first thing we need to recognize is that just because we like our way of live, doesn’t mean other cultures are going to embrace it. We came from an English system, then fought to get out of it, changed it, and founded what is the vision for our people. We should just let other people chart their own course and we would all be better off.

As Ron Paul has pointed out, part of the reason the people in the Middle East hate the West is because a foreign power has been over there for years and years fighting for those resources. It just happens to be convenient that many of them are nuts in their religious beliefs so it makes it easy to find an excuse to be there chasing terrorists around.

I am not sure why people are continually fooled by the Republican Party or Conservatives. As a Libertarian it is freeing, because Libertarian beliefs are based on some basic principles, the most important being individual liberty. For more detail check out the LP Party . In discussions I have had with many “Conservatives” we will find common ground on several issues, but then the inevitable always happens, the Conservative starts calling for Government to solve a problem or be involved in a way they see fit. They don’t like the way a Democrat or Progressive wants to govern but as soon as a Republican comes up with some nanny state, chrony capitalist, regulatory scheme… they jump on the bandwagon – often to singing the tune “well it is better then Obama”.

There is only one person who has been a consistent ideologue in Congress- Ron Paul - send a few pennies his way…

Laurence M. Vance has a great article posted at The Future of Freedom Foundation – “Which Republican Candidate is More Conservative” . He does a nice job of explaining who is responsible for having to flush your toilet 3x on a #2 and the Edison Bulb that will be unavailable soon.

Anyone up for a 3rd Party?

Here is a very good article regarding how Government drives up the cost to do business. I live this everyday in the type of business I am in. The regulations go way beyond just trying to protect people. Several specific to my industry are designed to keep workers out of the business which drives wages up and ultimately costs the consumer more money. It also keeps new smaller businesses from starting to compete against larger ones.

Other regulations are purely designed to send more money to Government agencies. In San Antonio right now it costs $1700 to replace a conventional fire alarm panel that would only cost $750 in other cities because of the permit fees so the city can come out and double check our work as if the license the State already makes me have is not sufficient. Further more this does not gaurantee or ensure the quality of work. I have made a fair amount of money correcting work done by others who were licensed. Market forces made the customers switch and pay more, not the Government regulation.

At the end of the day the consumer pays for all of the additional costs because they all get passed along.

This is a recent speech from Ron Paul regarding the latest debt limit increase. I have yet to look at the specifics of the deal but I am certain Ron Paul sums it up well. Please take a moment and read this and also, if you are going to vote in 2012, please consider Ron Paul. The media on the left and right hammer him all the time as being some sort of quack. I have followed his voting record and his career for the past few years and if you actually listen to him he makes more sense and is more principled than any other politician I have seen. Please give him a look in the upcoming election and maybe chip in a few bucks for his campaign.

August 1, 2011

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia – Today, 2012 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul issued a statement outlining his opposition to the debt ceiling deal struck between the White House and Congress. See statement below.

“While it is good to see serious debate about our debt crisis, I cannot support the reported deal on raising the nation’s debt ceiling. I have never voted to raise the debt ceiling, and I never will.

“This deal will reportedly cut spending by only slightly over $900 billion over 10 years. But we will have a $1.6 trillion deficit after this year alone, meaning those meager cuts will do nothing to solve our unsustainable spending problem.

“In fact, this bill will never balance the budget. Instead, it will add untold trillions of dollars to our deficit. This also assumes the cuts are real cuts and not the same old Washington smoke and mirrors game of spending less than originally projected so you can claim the difference as a ‘cut.’

“The plan also calls for the formation of a deficit commission, which will accomplish nothing outside of providing Congress and the White House with another way to abdicate responsibility.

“In my many years of public service, there have been commissions on everything from Social Security to energy policy, yet not one solution has been produced out of these commissions.

“By denying members the ability to offer amendments and only allowing an up-or-down vote that will take place in the hectic time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, this Commission essentially disenfranchises the vast majority of members from meaningfully participating in the debate over reducing spending and balancing the budget.

“Furthermore, despite the claims of the bill’s proponents, there is nothing to stop the commission from recommending tax increases.

“One of the reasons why I humbly suggest that I am the most qualified Presidential candidate is my experience to see and understand the long track record of failure, disappointments, and bad recommendations made by such commissions.

“Times like these require statesmanship and steady leadership, which I and the grassroots activists who have joined my campaign believe I am uniquely qualified to provide.

“What should bother Americans most is that under cover of this debt ceiling circus, we learned from a recent GAO one-time, limited audit that the Federal Reserve secretly pumped $16 trillion into American and foreign banks over three years. All of the Fed’s fat cat cronies were taken care of at the expense of the American public.

“To put that into perspective, our entire national debt is $14.5 trillion, and our annual deficit will be about $1.6 trillion, meaning the Federal Reserve created and appropriated more than our entire national debt to banks around the world in a few short years. We have been fighting in Congress these past few weeks over raising our debt ceiling by $2 trillion, an amount the Fed secretly gave away to just one big bank.

“For decades, politicians have promised future restraint in exchange for hikes in the debt limit. We are always told that we must act immediately to avoid a crisis. But time and time again, politicians reveal themselves to be untrustworthy, and we soon find ourselves in a crisis being led by the same folks who wish only to maintain the status quo.

“I believe in the great American traditions of free markets, sound money, and personal Liberty. But we are moving far away from what made us the greatest nation in human history. We must cut spending and balance our budget now, before it is too late.

“Let me be clear. The cuts we must make will not be easy, and there will be difficult times in the short run. But I have the greatest confidence that if we come together as a People, work hard, and do the right things, our country will be back on track in no time and on its way to unprecedented prosperity. But, if we continue to print money and pyramid debt, we will destroy ourselves and lose the promise of America forever.

“These difficult times require a President willing to stand against runaway spending. If elected, I will veto any spending bill that contributes to an unbalanced budget, and I will balance the budget in the first year of my term. I will not allow the Federal Reserve to destroy the value of our money by shoveling dollars into the pockets of its banker friends.

“I remain committed to working on behalf of the American people to drastically reduce spending and implement fundamental changes that will reform government and restore our nation’s prosperity.”

For years politicians, in particular the Democrats, blast certain companies regarding “record profits” as if to imply those profits were somehow stolen from people. Today the rhetoric coming from the Obama administration is no different then the tried and true class warfare that has been playing out since this Democratic Socialist system of Government began here. One of the so called evil companies always on the hit list is oil companies but rarely do you hear about high tech companies. Case in point:

Exxon Mobil- (1st quarter 2011) – 109.25 Billion Revenue; 10.65 Billion Net Income – 9.7% Margin

Apple – (2nd quarter 2011) – 28.57 Billion Revenue; 7.3 Billion Net Income – 25.5% Margin

A few random points to consider:

Our Government limits, regulates, taxes, and threatens the oil industry in the United States where arguably there is a considerable amount available. These are jobs that could be kept here if oil companies were allowed to operate.

Apple manufactures their IPAD in China (See Article Here) which doesn’t bother me but for those who clamor about US Jobs, Oil production here would result in more jobs.

Government fuel taxes account for $0.26 to $0.66 / gallon, where as Exxon Mobile makes about $0.02/gallon. The Government generates significant more tax revenue per year then any oil company makes.

So called “Massive Profits” are the best thing that could happen for us because now other companies are going after Apple with devices to compete with the IPAD. Google Android operating system along with several device manufactures are starting to chip away at the IPAD. Additionally others like HP are coming up there own tablets and OS’s. Profits, in particular large ones, drive other companies to compete which will eventually drive the prices down and all of us will have more and better options available.

Now you know!
